Music Lessons in Schaumburg, IL
Private lessons for Schaumburg kids, teens, and adults at The Arlington School of Music in downtown Arlington Heights — or online from home.
Schaumburg has no shortage of music programs — what draws students the extra 20 minutes to Arlington Heights (via Golf Road or IL-53 to US-14) is our faculty: an international flamenco concert artist heading the guitar department, a violinist who joined the New World Symphony at eighteen, and specialist teachers on instruments like oboe and bagpipes that are nearly impossible to find locally.
District 211 students from Schaumburg and Conant High School study with us to push past what group instruction can offer — audition preparation, competition coaching, and college prescreen recordings.
For weeks when the drive is too much, every teacher also offers online lessons.

Guitar Lessons
The guitar department at The Arlington School of Music is led by Executive Director Nico Angel, an international concert artist who has headed the department since 1967. He teaches classical, folk, and popular guitar, and specializes in concert flamenco in the style of Sabicas and Paco de Lucía — a style he studied with grand masters of the guitar in Spain, Mexico, Canada, and South America.

Violin students at The Arlington School of Music study with conservatory-trained performers. Faculty violinist Erin Yerin Kim is a graduate of the Cleveland Institute of Music, where she studied under Jaime Laredo and Stephen Rose. She was the youngest musician in history to join the roster of the New World Symphony — at eighteen — and has served as concertmaster of orchestras including the Honors Performance Series Orchestra at Carnegie Hall.

Piano is where most musicians begin — and at The Arlington School of Music, it is one of our largest departments. Our piano faculty is led by Scott Hendricks, a concert performer whose playing spans Chopin and Rachmaninoff to jazz standards, blues, and boogie-woogie, with festival credits including Taste of Chicago, Navy Pier, and Summerfest in Milwaukee.

Oboe instruction is hard to find — most areas have no dedicated oboe teacher at all. At The Arlington School of Music, oboe and English horn students study with Cindy Ying Jiang, a professional concert oboist and English horn soloist.

Voice lessons at The Arlington School of Music are led by Andrew Gilstrap, Head of Vocal Studies. Instruction centers on healthy, sustainable vocal technique — breath support, resonance, diction, and range development — applied to the styles each singer loves, from classical and musical theater to pop and jazz.
