Saxophone Lessons in Arlington Heights, IL

One-on-one saxophone instruction for kids, teens, and adults at The Arlington School of Music — in person at our downtown Arlington Heights studio or online.

Saxophone lessons at The Arlington School of Music are taught by Kristin Gorski, Head of our Woodwind & Brass Department. Students develop embouchure, air support, tone, and technique on alto or tenor sax, with instruction tailored to concert band, jazz band, or personal enjoyment.

School saxophonists get focused help with chair auditions, jazz band placement, honor ensembles, and solo & ensemble contests. Beginners — kids, teens, and adults — get a structured start that avoids the bad habits that stall progress.

We teach in person at our downtown Arlington Heights studio and online, serving students across the Northwest Suburbs.

Saxophone Lessons — Frequently Asked Questions

What age can a child start saxophone?

Most students begin around ages 10–11, when hands are big enough for an alto sax — usually alongside school band. Teens and adults pick up the instrument quickly with good instruction.

Do you teach jazz saxophone?

Yes. Jazz style, phrasing, and beginning improvisation are part of the studio, and we prepare students specifically for school jazz band auditions.

Alto or tenor — which should a beginner choose?

Alto is the usual starting point for its size and availability; switching to or adding tenor later is straightforward. Your teacher can advise based on the student's size and goals.
