One-on-one oboe instruction for kids, teens, and adults at The Arlington School of Music — in person at our downtown Arlington Heights studio or online.
Oboe instruction is hard to find — most areas have no dedicated oboe teacher at all. At The Arlington School of Music, oboe and English horn students study with Cindy Ying Jiang, a professional concert oboist and English horn soloist.
The oboe rewards good guidance more than almost any instrument: embouchure, air support, and above all reeds make or break a young player. Lessons cover tone production, technique, reed selection and adjustment, and the repertoire and excerpts students need for school ensembles, honor bands, youth orchestras, and college auditions.
Students travel to our Arlington Heights studio from across the Chicago Northwest Suburbs for specialist double-reed instruction; online lessons are also available.

Why does my child need a specialist oboe teacher?›
Oboe is unusually sensitive to embouchure, air, and reed quality, and general woodwind instruction often can't diagnose problems specific to double reeds. A professional oboist addresses these directly — including the reeds themselves.
What age can a student start oboe?›
Students typically start around ages 10–12, often switching from another woodwind in school band. Adult beginners and returning players are welcome.
Do you teach English horn?›
Yes. Our instructor is an English horn soloist, and advancing oboists can add the English horn as their skills grow.
