Drum Lessons in Arlington Heights, IL
One-on-one drums instruction for kids, teens, and adults at The Arlington School of Music — in person at our downtown Arlington Heights studio or online.
Drum and percussion students at The Arlington School of Music study with Michael Pfannkuche, a former Drum Corps International and Winter Guard International performer. Lessons cover drum set, concert snare, rudimental drumming, and mallet percussion — the full range a school percussionist or aspiring drummer needs.
Beginners start with stick control, rudiments, and reading rhythm; drum set students build grooves, fills, and independence across rock, pop, funk, and jazz styles; school percussionists get targeted help with band audition material, marching percussion, and mallet technique.
Lessons are one-on-one at our Arlington Heights studio, serving drummers from Rolling Meadows, Mount Prospect, Palatine, and across the Northwest Suburbs — weekdays 3:00–9:00 PM and weekends by appointment.

Drum Lessons — Frequently Asked Questions
Does my child need a drum set at home?›
Not to start. A practice pad and sticks are enough for the first months of rudiment and reading work. When you're ready, your teacher can recommend an affordable beginner kit — electronic kits are a good quiet option for apartments.
What ages do you teach drums?›
Most children are ready around age 7–8, and we teach through teens and adults. Lessons are tailored to each student's age, goals, and experience.
Do you help with school band and marching percussion?›
Yes. Our percussion instructor is a former Drum Corps International and Winter Guard International performer and regularly prepares students for school band placements, marching season, and honor ensembles.
Can I learn drum set styles like rock and jazz?›
Absolutely. Drum set lessons cover rock, pop, funk, and jazz — grooves, fills, coordination, and playing along with real songs.
