Piano Lessons in Arlington Heights, IL

One-on-one piano instruction for kids, teens, and adults at The Arlington School of Music — in person at our downtown Arlington Heights studio or online.

Piano is where most musicians begin — and at The Arlington School of Music, it is one of our largest departments. Our piano faculty is led by Scott Hendricks, a concert performer whose playing spans Chopin and Rachmaninoff to jazz standards, blues, and boogie-woogie, with festival credits including Taste of Chicago, Navy Pier, and Summerfest in Milwaukee.

Lessons are one-on-one and shaped around each student: young beginners build reading and hand technique through age-appropriate repertoire, teens prepare for school ensembles, competitions, and college prescreens, and adults return to the instrument — or start it for the first time — at their own pace. Students can study classical technique, jazz and improvisation, or the popular songs that made them want to play in the first place.

Our studio at 320 S Arlington Heights Rd has served families in Arlington Heights, Mount Prospect, Palatine, Buffalo Grove, and the surrounding Northwest Suburbs since 1930. Weekday lessons run 3:00–9:00 PM, with weekend times by appointment and online lessons available.

What You’ll Learn

  • Reading music, rhythm, and keyboard technique from the first lesson
  • Classical repertoire — Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Chopin — at every level
  • Jazz, blues, and pop styles, including improvisation and playing by ear
  • Preparation for recitals, school ensembles, competitions, and auditions
  • Practice habits that make progress steady and enjoyable

Piano Lessons — Frequently Asked Questions

At what age can my child start piano lessons?

Most children are ready for private piano lessons around age 5–7, once they can focus for a 30-minute lesson. Our teachers adapt pacing and repertoire for young beginners, and it is never too late for teens or adults to start.

Do I need a piano at home to take lessons?

A full acoustic piano is ideal but not required to begin. A 88-key digital keyboard with weighted keys is a good starting point for beginners, and your teacher can advise on an upgrade path as you progress.

Do you teach jazz and pop piano, or only classical?

Both. Our faculty performs classical, jazz, blues, and popular styles professionally, and lessons follow the student's goals — from Chopin to boogie-woogie to current pop songs.

Where do piano lessons take place?

In person at our studio at 320 S Arlington Heights Rd in downtown Arlington Heights, IL, or online. Families come to us from Mount Prospect, Palatine, Buffalo Grove, Rolling Meadows, and across the Northwest Suburbs.
