Clarinet Lessons in Arlington Heights, IL

One-on-one clarinet instruction for kids, teens, and adults at The Arlington School of Music — in person at our downtown Arlington Heights studio or online.

Clarinet lessons at The Arlington School of Music are taught by Kristin Gorski, Head of our Woodwind & Brass Department. Students build a strong foundation — embouchure, voicing, air support, finger technique, and crossing the break cleanly — the skills that separate frustrated beginners from confident players.

School band clarinetists work on chair placement auditions, honor bands, and solo & ensemble contest pieces; beginners of any age get a patient, structured start on the instrument.

Lessons are one-on-one at our downtown Arlington Heights studio or online, serving students across the Northwest Suburbs of Chicago.

  • Correct embouchure, voicing, and air support

Clarinet Lessons — Frequently Asked Questions

What age can a child start clarinet?

Most students start around ages 9–11, typically with school band. Private lessons alongside band accelerate progress dramatically, and teen and adult beginners are welcome.

My child squeaks constantly — can lessons fix that?

Yes. Squeaking almost always comes from embouchure, voicing, or reed issues, which are exactly what one-on-one instruction addresses in the first few lessons.

Do you prepare students for solo & ensemble contest?

Yes — repertoire selection, technical preparation, and performance coaching for contests, honor bands, and chair auditions are a core part of our woodwind studio.
